Our Neighborhood
Located in the heart of Montrose, Mandell Place offers the best urban living with a close-knit neighborhood feel. Tree-lined streets, historic homes, and proximity to Houston’s renowned arts and cultural centers make Mandell Place one of the city’s most desirable areas. Whether you're strolling through the neighborhood, enjoying local dining, or participating in community events, you’ll quickly feel the warmth and charm of our neighborhood.
Our History
In the 1920s, Houston’s population soared, and the demand for affordable housing and improved infrastructure grew rapidly. Once isolated in the South End, the elegant mansions of Westmoreland, Courtland Place, Avondale, and Montrose became part of a booming city.
In January 1923, the Houston City Council approved the plat for Mandell Place, bordered by West Alabama, Dunlavy, Westheimer, and Mulberry. The neighborhood was intersected by Mandell Street and featured charming bungalows that followed strict deed restrictions, similar to surrounding areas.
Over time, commercial developments encroached, with businesses replacing some of the larger homes. Despite this, Mandell Place has largely maintained its residential character thanks to the efforts of an active civic association and dedicated property owners. Mandell Place remains a neighborhood built with intention and community spirit.
